'It Ends With Us' Movie Has a New Trailer Set to Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has been utterly ubiquitous these past few months—she has flitted from state to state to support her man Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, dashed from country to country to perform her record-breaking Eras Tour, and has her songs playing on just about every radio station out there. Today, her track, "My Tears Ricochet," off of her eighth studio album Folklore, also set the mood for the emotional first trailer of It Ends With Us.

The adaptation of #bookTok-loved author Colleen Hoover's 2016 romance novel, of course, stars Swift's bestie Blake Lively, who plays the lead Lily Bloom. The story follows Lily, "a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life in Boston," per the official synopsis. She opens up a floral shop and has a chance encounter with neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (played by Justin Baldoni). Believing she has found her soul mate, the two get married, but things start to take a turn after Lily's high school sweetheart, Atlas Corrigan (played by Brandon Sklenar), reenters her life. "Lily realizes she must learn to rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future," the synopsis concludes.

The trailer opens with a montage of a glowing Lily walking through Boston. Next, Lily and Ryle enjoy a romantic date night of karaoke, exchanging adoring looks and dancing before cutting to Lily looking up at her old flame, Atlas. The dramatic sequence is set to Swift singing, "We gather stones, never knowing what they'll mean."

Swift shared on Instagram in 2020, at the time of the album's release, that the song is about an "embittered tormentor showing up at the funeral of his fallen object of obsession." While fans who haven't read the novel will have to wait until the movie releases in theaters on Aug. 9 to get the full story, it is pretty much guaranteed that any love story set to Taylor Swift is bound to be dramatic.
