Karen Spencer Breaks Silence on Divorce From Charles

Kate Spencer is breaking her silence on her divorce from Earl Charles Spencer, Princess Diana's brother. The Countess of Spencer took to Instagram on June 22, and shared a carousel of images of her summer solstice celebrations with friends along with an update on how she's doing amid her and Charles's impending divorce.

"Just wanted to say that I have been overwhelmed by the messages of love and support," she captioned the series of serene images.

"Thank you, it has really meant a lot to me," she told her followers. "I’m just processing at the moment. Will come back to you soon. Thought I’d share a few pics from last nights summer solstice gathering."

The news of Charles and Kate's split arrived on June 8, with the Earl sharing a statement with The Mail on Sunday about the dissolution of their marriage. "It is immensely sad," he told the outlet at the time. "I just want to devote myself to all my children, and to my grandchildren, and I wish Karen every happiness in the future."

Following the news of their split, Charles hired the same divorce attorney that King Charles used when divorcing his older sister, Diana.

The Times reported that the 9th Earl Spencer hired Fiona Shackleton to handle his divorce from Karen. Shackleton previously represented King Charles—back then he was Prince Charles—for his public divorce from Diana after 11 years of marriage. Charles and Diana's separation occurred in 1992, with the divorce being finalized in 1996. Princess Diana would die a year later in 1997 following her tragic Paris car crash.
