Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley Wanted Kids Early in Relationship

Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley's baby news is finally out, and according to sources, their bundle of joy has been a long time in the making.

A source told People that Robbie and Ackerley knew early on that they hoped to add children into their dynamic, and noted that the couple “wanted to start a family for quite some time.” As such, the pair is delighted that the world can share in their pregnancy.

“Family means a lot to both of them and they knew early on in their relationship being parents was something they really wanted,” the source added. “They've been keeping it under wraps for a while but are happy the news is out.”

Robbie debuted her baby bump on July 7 with a paparazzi photo taken of her and Ackerley vacationing in Lake Como—in the picture, the Barbie actress sported a while crop top that exposed her pregnant belly with a black blazer.

Robbie's pregnancy news does come as a surprise, with a separate source telling People that "no one suspected that she was pregnant" while she was working on her latest project, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. The 34-year-old "was super professional and focused while filming," and even though "she had long days, it didn't seem like a big deal to her."

"[Margot] looked amazing and seemed very happy," the source added. "She got along with Colin [Farrell], and they had fun filming."

Robbie and Ackerley's baby comes after eight years of marriage. The couple tied the knot in 2016, and in Vogue’s June 2016 issue, she revealed the origins of their relationship, which started off as platonic while filming Suite Française in 2013. “I was the ultimate single gal. The idea of relationships made me want to vomit. And then this crept up on me. We were friends for so long. I was always in love with him, but I thought, Oh, he would never love me back. Don’t make it weird, Margot. Don’t be stupid and tell him that you like him," she said. "And then it happened, and I was like, Of course we’re together. This makes so much sense, the way nothing has ever made sense before.”
