My Mom and I Are Obsessed With These Ryk Sneakers

My mom and I are very similar. We look alike, we think alike, we share clothes, and we call each other at the same time way too many times to say it’s just a fluke (hey, it’s called telepathy). I am my mom’s daughter, so when I like something, I can be pretty darn certain that she will, too, and vice versa. And when she likes something, she knows I will likely approve of it as well. But the latest mom-daughter moment came from my side, when I tried a pair of sneakers I just knew she would love. 

My mom is a big, big comfy shoe girl, just like me, so I had zero doubts that she, too, would fall head over heels (err, kicks) for the Rykä Trailblazer sneaker that's the epitome of a chunky dad sneaker. The lug-sole trainer trend has been around for a while, and it’s certainly not going anywhere anytime soon, but it did take me a while to hop aboard. But alas, I did so, and the Rykä style is what kicked it all off. 

I first slipped into the sneaker a few weeks back, and while I’m skeptical of wearing a fresh-out-of-the-box for more than 5,000-steps at a time, I tested to limits with these on a pleasant trail walk. The verdict? The Trailblazer was comfortable the entire time, and TBH, from the moment I slipped them on, I knew they would be, too. After all, Rykä knows us women, designing shoes specifically with a woman’s unique foot shape, so I really had zero reservations about sneakers, which happen to be on major Black Friday sale right now.

Every facet of the Trailblazer has been thought out with comfort in mind. It’s designed with extra support under the arch and midfoot thanks to a game-changing anatomical insole, a midsole that adds further cushioning, and a TreadTech lug sole for increased traction. The leather sneaker also has reflective strips that are ideal for nighttime walking and a padded collar to gently, comfortable wearing. 

And while the Trailblazer is a great trail walking sneaker, I think it easily works beyond the limits of nature, too. Considering the chunky shoe is stylish, I’ll be wearing these with my go-to trousers (that feel like sweats!), and I know my mom, who spends nine-plus hours on her feet, will be rocking these at work. After all, foot health is more important than fashion, but if I can find a shoe that does both (aka, is easy on the feet and a style moment), I won’t pass it up.
