Serena Williams Jokes About Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce at ESPYs

Serena Williams couldn't resist bringing about sports' most talked about couple, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. The tennis champion used her opening monologue at the 2024 ESPYs to joke about the the Kansas City Chiefs tight end's recent Super Bowl win.

"Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs. This year, Patrick Mahomes and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend won a Super Bowl,” she said during the event.

Williams continued the joke and didn't even refer to his all-star last name, telling the audience, “Travis and Taylor reportedly spent $100,000 a day on their romance. That’s a lot of money. That’s what I’ve been told [Boston Celtics shooting guard] Jaylen Brown spends on his beard. It’s very shiny. I like it though.” Neither Swift nor Kelce were at the ESPYs to hear the joke live.

While Williams was clearly joking about Swift and Kelce's spending habits, there's a real chance that their day to day actually costs more. In fact, Swift's visit to Kelce's NFL games, during which she often sat in a private box with her close friends and family, cost upwards of seven figures to make happen by the time the actual Super Bowl rolled around.

In a recent clip from Netflix’s Receiver, Kelce told San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle that the pop star's suite at the Las Vegas Allegiant Stadium may have cost more than “fucking three million dollars,” though he did not reveal if he was the one to foot the bill or not.

As the Bowl drew closer, Kelce shared on an episode of his and brother Jason's New Heights podcast that “I’m not really doing much different other than just counting how much money I’m spending on this damn Super Bowl for family and friends to come.”
