Sofa Vergaras Cool-Girl Sneakers Somehow Made the Most Basic Outfit Feel Fresh

Few, if any, outfits are more reliable than a pair of blue jeans and a white T-shirt. I reach for the pairing at least once a week, which requires zero thought but looks good without fail. It’s a classic duo we all wear, so I was kind of surprised when I saw Sofía Vergara wear it this week and thought, “I need that.”

Upon stepping out in Los Angeles, she, like many of us, opted for that classic pairing, wearing light-wash jeans with a slightly cropped white T-shirt. Despite the look being pretty, well, unoriginal, it somehow felt modern and fresh, in part thanks to her choice of proportions. 

Vergara opted for a boxy tee that skimmed the waistband of her baggy jeans, the cropped length perfectly balancing her pant’s oversized silhouette. The jeans sat comfortably at her waist, giving a little shape to the otherwise roomy style, before widening out at the legs. They were so relaxed and perfectly oversized that I actually started to rethink my no-jeans-in-summer stance; they might be full-length, but this pair actually offered room to move and breathe. 

It wasn’t just the silhouette that made this look feel fresh. Vergara’s shoes, a pair of optic-white sneakers with a platform, elevated her otherwise classic outfit.

White sneakers are—just like the rest of this look—basic. But, again, Vergara proved the style can still feel new upon reaching for a pair that took major inspo from combat boots. The shoes feature a small platform with a lugged sole that not only added height to the shoes, but also gave them a slightly edgy look. 

Sneakers, jeans, and a T-shirt might be the most classic outfit you can wear. But despite its timelessness—and, yes, basicness—the combination doesn’t have to feel stale.
