This Opulent Finishing Powder Illuminates My Dull Skin

I am a “less is more” type of makeup girl. Minus a brief electric blue eyeliner stint in high school, I generally gravitate toward a neutral yet glowing look, with a strict no-cakey-foundation or matte finish policy. I am always on the hunt for products that help fake that no-makeup, radiant complexion, like tinted moisturizers and lip-popping glosses. Over the holidays I was gifted a few products from the Kevyn Aucoin Beauty collection — including a finishing powder I didn’t know I needed — and it has been the ultimate game changer in faking a flawless complexion while sticking true to my au natural look.

It isn’t uncommon to wake up on a wintery morning with lackluster skin, especially on days that I don’t drink enough water. My Drmtlgy Universal Tinted Moisturizer SPF 46 is a great starting point to tone down redness and get my glow on (I raved about it, here), but I had been struggling to find a powder without that, well, powdery look to it — until I discovered Kevyn Aucoin Beauty Opulent Finishing Powder

The powder, which launched this past fall,  comes in two universal shades: Incandescent, a low-key swirl of glistening gold and rose tones, and Lustre, a warm gold and copper. I recommend splurging on both, but if you have to choose, base your decision on the look you are striving for. Lustre definitely has more of an impact, doubling as a bronzer, while Incandescent is definitely more subtle.

Your skin glows up the instant the micro-fine luminescent particles hit it, resulting in a super ethereal, luminous look. The brand recommends applying the product to the “high point” of the face “or anywhere you want to bring luminosity to your look.” I definitely emphasize the cheeks, but also brush it over my forehead and nose and add a stroke to my jawline as well.

I really appreciate how easy-to-apply the product is, even for those with minimal makeup artistry skill. It’s basically impossible to walk away looking like an amateur, as you could brush it everywhere on your face and still look like you walked out of a makeup ad.

It comes in especially handy when I have breakouts and use a cakier concealer, as it seems to effortlessly refine skin texture while adding shimmer. The powder is also totally weightless, which is a huge bonus for anyone who doesn’t like the feeling of makeup on their skin.

If you are concerned about the $48 price tag, I can assure you that it definitely lives up to my luxury beauty standards in every way, from how it wears to the solid packaging. I will definitely be checking out other products from the collection in the near future. Snag your own Kevyn Aucoin Beauty finishing powder to experience the results for yourself.
